子供や若者をターゲットにしているため、映画の代名詞であった過激なバイオレンス描写は鳴りを潜め、家族で安心して楽しめるヒーローアクションとして再構築されています。
主人公ロボコップ（演：リチャード・エデン）はヒーローに徹し、犯罪者を殺さずに非致死性の装備で逮捕。これにより、魅力的な悪役たちが何度も登場し、物語を盛り上げる「お約束」の展開が可能になりました。
映画では冷酷非道な巨大企業として描かれたOCP（オムニ社）も、本作では悪意のない、どこか間抜けで憎めない存在として登場。シニカルな社会風刺よりも、コミカルなキャラクター性が強調されています。
映画のハードな世界観とは一線を画し、明るく勧善懲悪なヒーロー番組として独自の魅力を放つ一作です。
